Bacocho Beach: Tranquility and Turtle Releases Guide
Escape the crowds and discover the serene beauty of Bacocho Beach in Puerto Escondido. This expansive beach is known for its calm waters, soft sand, and the opportunity to participate in turtle releases. It's the perfect place to relax, unwind, and connect with nature. Unlike the powerful waves of Zicatela, Bacocho Beach offers a more tranquil environment. The gentle waves make it ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is also home to a turtle sanctuary, where you can learn about the conservation efforts and even participate in releasing baby turtles into the ocean (seasonal). Activities at Bacocho Beach include swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. The turtle releases are a highlight, offering a unique and memorable experience. Several restaurants and beach clubs offer delicious food and drinks. Be sure to try the local specialty, tlayudas, a large, crispy tortilla topped with beans, cheese, and your choice of meat or vegetables.
Transportation
Taxis are the most convenient way to reach Bacocho Beach. You can also take a colectivo (shared van) heading west from the center of Puerto Escondido and ask to be dropped off near the beach entrance. From there, it's a short walk to the shore.
